What is an NVQ?

An NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) is a qualification which assesses someone’s competences (skills, knowledge and understanding) in a work environment.

NVQ’s are based on National Occupational Standards which describe the level of performance expected of anyone working within the sector the NVQ covers.

How do I achieve an NVQ?

You must prove that you have the skills, knowledge and understanding detailed in the NVQ units. You will be guided and supported whilst building your evidence portfolio. Your Assessor will judge, from your evidence whether you have demonstrated the skills, knowledge and understanding to the required standard. You do not need to pass a written exam or have any previous qualifications to be able to achieve the NVQ.

NVQ’s are very flexible qualifications, which allow you to achieve recognition for what you have achieved even if you do not finish the full qualification. You can gain certification for completed units / parts of the NVQ.
